For Your Life Matters.
Because Your Life Matters.

Are you concerned about your use of drugs or alcohol? Do you worry about your sexual choices or other problematic behaviors? Do you judge yourself harshly? Do you feel anxious or depressed? Does life feel overwhelming or difficult to handle?

The first step is yours. The rest we’ll do together.

Life's Challenges

We are in a time where maintaining “good mental health” is often at odds with the world in which we live. If that weren’t enough, you may have your own challenges based on what you have experienced over the course of your life. To cope, you may have chosen behaviours or substances that temporarily ease the pain. That choice, however, comes with it’s own set of problems over the long term.

Sex Addiction

Sexually addictive behaviour is characterized by secrecy, isolation, mistrust, shame and risk. Healthy sexual behavior is characterized by trust, respect (for self and others), joy and safety. The object of recovery from sex addiction is to build a bridge in which clients can move from problematic sexual behaviour, to healthy sexuality.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse

Drug and alcohol abuse can be very hard to overcome on one’s own. One difficulty is the belief that the individual can control his or her use. Once a person thinks there is an issue with their drug and alcohol use, he or she might make promises to one’s self or to others to cut back, limit or quit altogether.

Anxiety and Depression

Living with a high level of anxiety can become exhausting and debilitating, even for the most capable of persons. Typically people suffering from anxiety will seek to avoid situations which lead them to feel anxious or medicate themselves (with drugs/alcohol) or self-harm to remove the feelings of anxiety.

Addiction

Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health. People who have developed an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is out of control and causing problems for themselves and others.

Recovery

Sometimes talking to an impartial person gives a much better perspective than sharing with a friend or relative. Counselling gives a sense of optimism, support and inner power for the changes that will make a difference.
